Barrel Racing
BlackjackDTC Field, Blackjack Rd
Barrel Racing
Barrel Racing originates from horse riding and is a timed rodeo discipline that demands speed, accuracy and agility. In America they did a barrel racing demo with dogs on one of the barrrel racing events for horses and Hetty found pictures of it online. She loved the idea and started training with her dogs. Since the beginning of 2010 she has made many more people enthousiastic for this new sport. The handler & dog’s skills and competitive drive in this fast and furious event make it a crowd favourite. The dogs race from end to end of the arena at full speed while twisting and turning around a series of barrels in a cloverleaf pattern. The handlers have to keep standing behind the starting line, while giving commands to the dog and making sure the dog runs as fast as possible.
Although a dog can touch or move the barrels, a time penalty will be awarded for every one that is overturned. It’s an ideal dog sport for dogs that love to run.
Rules & Patterns
The barrel racing can be done as a single, brace or team sport. It is a timed event, where the handler stays behind the starting line and the dog works on his own. There are 4 possible patterns and the judge will inform you on the day which pattern will be run. To have a look at the 4 patterns, please click here. More on the rules here.

Rally involves you and your dog working as a team to navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform; think of it as a sort of 'obedience exercise obstacle course' including simple exercises.
